Pouilly-Fuisse 2002, Daniel Barraud

This is a most limpid wine with the colour of honeydew melon skin. The first nose is immediately open offering peach, melon flesh, and warm fruit aromas. The evolution to the second nose after aeration produces a thick buttery bouquet of mashed courgette with real depth. The bouquet concludes after 20 minutes in the glass with sweet mandarin, green gauge, and a sprinkling of cloves. On the palate this is a rich buttery wine with a mature balance, medium to low acidity and a baked orange flavour. There is no doubt the wine is at its apogee and would complement roasted white fish or grilled langoustines and scallops.
