Puligny-Montrachet 2004, Jean Pascal & Fils

A second bottle tasted over a fish dinner at Back to Basics in London. This Puligny village wine had a pale, light yellow colour. The first nose was relatively faint and dominated by oak vanillins. Aromas remained fairly dilute without clearly delineated fruit coming through. On the palate the wine was more impressive with its rich texture, teeth-coating glycerins, fine oak tannins, and emerging minerality. Overall this wine is OK, but it is not a Puligny to impress in a vintage when some stunningly fresh and potent wines were made. Moral of the story: always buy the producer you know, not the terroir you admire.
