Vosne-Romanee 2004, Robert Arnoux

Tasted blind by six tasters with the other 2004 red Burgundies listed here. The typical medium-red colour trumps other wines in this flight due to its perfect reflectiveness. The aromas open with cherry and red berries, evolve to oak, stones and limestone in particular, then the wine closes up for a while yet evolves again into a meaty aroma. The high acidity, strong ripe tannins, and fruit power on the palate announce a wine that will mature after 2010. Impressive.
