Savigny-les-Beaune 2004, Vincent-Escalier

This white Savigny is medium to thick yellow. Almost brassy in colour. First nose of oak. Second nose of oak. Third nose of… oak! Powerful and stark new oak. High acidity which was typical for 2004. Concentrated citrus flavours with astringent oak tannins. This wine is no more Savigny than it is Stellenbosch or Nappa Valley. The young winemakers need to tone down the new oak. No prospect of oak and fruit integrating with age to produce a pleasant balance. One dimensional and untypical for the terroir rather than unpleasant.
