I generally avoid Burgundy's negociant wines from the likes of Louis Latour, Louis Jadot, Champy, Faiveley, Moillard, Patriarche etc on the grounds that all too often they are formulaic not artisanal; the house style dominates the terroir. With trepidation I opened this
Bouchard Aine & Fils Pouilly-Fuisse but was most pleasantly surprised by a fresh medium-light yellow colour. A ripe pear, apricot, honey nose. A little clinical perhaps owing to elevage in stainless steel but pleasant and Fuisse-like all the same. On the palate, rich yellow fruit, broad on the mid-palate with a glossy texture, attractive citrus flavours, a little firey, orange finish and fairly long. By no means is this the best Pouilly-Fuisse but it is a very decent beverage and I commend it to the
House.
