Pommard 1er Cru "Clos des Epeneaux" 1990, Comte Armand

The Comte Armand domaine is one of the great Burgundy domaines that makes wine for long cellaring. We tasted this Pommard at the Tate Britain restaurant in a half-bottle format. The colour was remarkably thick and intense like claret or Cornas with a mature rim. Olfactory sensation strong from the start with damson, coffee and cassis with some elements of cave-aged cheese rind. The bouquet is very rich and broad with underlying schwarzbrot, dates and tea. This impressive wine is somewhat porty and a tad oxidized on the palate with dark dried fruits, a fiery finish, its a little dried out with a charcoal element. Overall the style is almost Pomerol-like with a dry leathery texture. If Borat were tasting this he would say: "Wow wow wow!" The photo was taken on June 24, 2007.
