Beaune 1er Cru "Les Grèves" 2006, Etienne de Montille
The photo is from September 20, 2007 looking away from Beaune towards the Côte-d'Or. Les Grèves is off to the right, to the north-west of Beaune next to "Les Cents Vignes" and I wonder with Sarkozy's economic reforms France might end up with "Les Cents Grèves"... Jesting aside, Les Grèves is one of the largest premiers crus and as such is always a useful point of comparison for different Beaune producers. The wine from Etienne de Montille starts on a toasty nose, sweet vanillins, and ripe raspberry fruit. Oak dominant aromas will dissipate since there is only 15% new oak. Soft nose belies a thick, rich flavour with a primary element of ripe strawberries. A potent finish. All the elements to age well.
