Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Referts" 2006, Bachelet-Monnot

This is the first time I have tasted Bachelet-Monnot's wines and I was very pleasantly surprised. As I brought the glass to my flared nostrils I thought "zinging zounds of Puligny citrus!". The super-fresh aromas are in stark contrast to some other 2006s which err towards peach and even pineapple. The zappy fruit exists despite the wines being aged in 50% new oak barrels. The oak is more apparent on the palate. Fantastic acidity and concentration: the wine's style is sharp as a sabre. If you prefer elegance to unctuousness then this is for you. Tasted at the Justerini & Brooks annual Burgundy tasting in the Institute of Civil Engineers at One Great George Street in Westminster.
