Auxey-Duresses 2004, Fabien Coche-Bouillot

Auxey-Duresses is one of the pretty villages which lacks the reknown of the big names but is contiguous with Meursault. This Auxey has a pleasant straw yellow colour with first aromas of morello cherry and slightly unripe mirabelle plum, then vanilla and hazelnut. It’s an attractive mix of savoury and sharp citrus aromas. Remarkable on the palate. Very fresh, sharp acidity, mineral, lemon and lime. Almost like a Chablis or Mosel Riesling. Really captures the rapier acidity of the 2004 vintage combined with a healthy dollop of apple and lemon fruit. Promises excellent evolution to 2012. I like!     Anyone who can use the words 'rapier' and 'healthy dollop' in the same sentence and completely charm and seduce the reader is a rare find indeed. Which is why you are my go-to blog for all things Burgundian.
