Saint-Véran 2006, Les Vignerons des Grandes Vignes

Bought as a chef's quaffing wine this turned out to be a most palatable little number. Closed with an easy-to-open-without-a-corkscrew-but-with-a-hand screw cap this Saint-Véran didn't hold back. Fresh melon, peach and orange aromas. Cheeky acidity on the palate and a gouleyant style that one can not argue with. True, one can't wax lyrical about this pleasing number, it is what it is. But are there not operas like Verdi's Simon Boccanegra that please for an evening and are soon forgotten?
