Marsannay 2005, Château de Marsannay

This is one of the rare Marsannay blanc wines produced by the well-known Château de Marsannay. There is something in the soil in Marsannay, way up at the northern tip of the Côte d'Or, that tends to give white wines an earthy weight. This 2005 has an apple sauce and vanilla nose with hints of lemon sauce and tangerine. Tasty and pleasantly fruit-driven reflecting the ripeness of 2005. Good breadth and has the traditional dry wheat finish. Marsannay blanc is never an amazing wine but its a pleasant oddity with identifiable characteristics.
