Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru "Sous Fretille" 2005, Rollin Pere & Fils

Even in London one struggles to find Pernand-Vergelesses -- the reason why most of my tasting notes for this village come from the raid on the Rollin stocks back in September 2007. As anticipated, this Sous Fretille blanc has evolved wonderfully since last tasted. Powerfully present aromas of apple, pear, cherry flesh and oak are followed by more variegated sniffs of maccadamia nuts, orange blossom, oak vanillins and icing sugar. This is a big bouquet! Rich, rounded and surprisingly firey on the palate with good acidity and a tendency towards savoury rather than fruity flavours which is typicaly of Pernand wines. A real cracker.
