Beaune 1er Cru "Les Marconnets" 2007, Château de la Velle

Tasted at the Château de la Velle, owned by the Darviot family in Meursault, in the shadow of an 18th century wine press this Beaune chardonnay starts with a warm nose of nectarines, hints of oak and undertones of orange. More complete on the palate offering a spicy finish of nutmeg and white pepper, good minerality, the impressively chalky terroir comes through due to the use of 400 litre oak barrels of which only 10% are new oak. Friendly prices too if bought from the domaine.
