Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Clos Saint Jean" 2008, Domaine Parigot

In March this year I tasted the Clos St Jean 2004 from Guy Amiot and was mightily impressed by the power and sheer uumph of the wine. Interestingly this Clos St Jean has similar characteristics which suggests to me it has a very southerly exposition like the Mont de Milieu in Chablis. Engaging nose of apricot and satsuma with a trace of melon, spots of honey and wafts of almond from the 30% new oak barrels. Superb yellow fruit flavours on the palate, rich, balanced. punchy with an impressive finish. Give this wine 3 years and then unleash on a lobster thermidor! Photo shows Clos St Jean in July 2010.
