Mazy-Chambertin Grand Cru 2002, Armand Rousseau

Armand Rousseau is a legendary Gevrey producer and even when we tasted at the domaine in November 2009 we couldn't buy wine direct. There is a 20 year waiting list! Intense, thick plummy-prune colour. Quiet nose of cooked pheasant, red currant jelly, rye bread, cherry, slightly spicy (cinnamon). Savoury, ripe tannins, plum, lively, melded black stone fruit flavours. Continues to be closed on the nose. Big structure, impressive dark fruit sensation. Excellent quality and is similar to the Charmes-Chambertin 1990 in structure and flavour. Image shows the Côte d'Or south of Gevrey in July 2010.
