Saint-Aubin 1er Cru "Murgers des Dents de Chien" 2008, Jean Chartron

This lieu-dit is above Chevalier-Montrachet on the other side of the hill and rivals En Remilly as the top Saint-Aubin premier cru. Attractive light yellow with consistency and depth. Initial nose has hints of le boisé typical of a younger wine aged in fûts de chêne. Friendly almond touches and possibly a hint of sweet potato or gateau de courge. What the Japanese would call umami. Layered texture of orange and minerals. Comes across as really tart despite the chardonnay grapes being harvested towards the end of the September after le vent du nord had swept away the early September rains. Un vin de garde. Ouvrir en 3 ans. Photo shows the hill between Chevalier-Montrachet and Dents de Chien with the Chassagne vineyard "Les Chenevottes" in the foreground.
