Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Baudines" 2007, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey

Both names "Colin" and "Morey" have deep, deep roots in the village of Chassagne. How about this wine, tasted blind? Heavy legs, evident precipitate in the wine suggesting it is bravely unfiltered, a white oak colour. Mineral, chalky, lime, lemon rind. This is a young nose dominated by new, untoasted oak. When imbibed initial impression of oak tannins, this is thick with citrus fruits (confirming the viscous legs), residual sugar on the lips, a savoury finish. Zingy acidity with a line of minerality. A very well made wine which needs another 5 years in bottle. The domaine is trying to prove a point with a heavy-weight wine in a light, fruity vintage. One to watch!
