Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes 2009, Château de la Tour

The Clos de Vougeot vieilles vignes from Château de la Tour comes at a 50% premium to the "Cuvée Classique". In the 2007 vintage the difference in quality was very clear. This 2009 vintage has cassis, spice, pencil lead and oak. A potent nose already. Very big o the palate, splashy black fruits, a super-rich style. A wine that would impressive claret-drinkers who need a lot of olfactory stimulation. But once you reached the third glass your palate would be tired. Is this really what Burgundy pinot should be? Tasted courtesy of the Corney & Barrow Burgundy 2009 tasting.
