Meursault 2009, Domaine Matrot

The Matrot domaine has 18 hectares of vineyards on the Côte de Beaune and I often think that size matters when it comes to making benchmark wines. This Meursault 2009 has a nutty (hazelnut, almond) nose backed up by lemon and orange. Very fresh, racy, mineral, tart on the palate. This is a vin digeste and also a vin de garde. Will need at least 5 years to fully open up. More controlled and less fruit-driven than the Meursault 2007. An excellent wine that will appeal to people looking for a refined Meursault. Could hardly be more different from the Patrick Javillier Meursault 2009. And they are both tremendous wines! Tasted courtesy of the Corney & Barrow Burgundy 2009 tasting.
