Monthélie 2003, Petitjean-Damy

Is all that time reading Alan Meadows and the Guide Hachette worth the effort? Veer off the carefully researched track and one has to say "Yes!". This 2003 Monthélie from the Petitjean-Damy domaine was barely palatable. Offered at the domaine as part of the two day Monthélie "portes ouvertes" wine festival this 2003 was a low point. Initial bouquet of dates and strawberries dropped away to expose an oxidized pinot whiff. Finishes on tree bark. Tannic structure, drying out. Should have been drunk by 2006! Not good.
