Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Folatières" 1999, Domaine Joseph Drouhin

A third wine in the Burgoblog blind tasting. This Puligny has a medium yellow to light gold colour. Initially it was very slightly petillant. First aroma of almond followed by further subtle aromas of pine kernels, brazil nuts. Slow to open. Bouquet remains savoury with no obvious fruits. On the palate mature lemon flavour, round, soft, generous, perhaps a little fat with evolved oak tannins. An interesting contrast with the more lemon-driven, creamy and spicy Meursault 1998 from Leroy. Several tasters thought this was a much younger wine (2005, 2007) due to its reserved nature.
