Volnay 2009, Domaine des Comtes Lafon

Another pinot tasted at the domaine, this Volnay is floral, hunkered down black berry. Dominique Lafon said they had to pick the pinots very quickly in 2009 because the warm weather was causing the sugar levels in the grapes to increase rapidly which presented a risk of sur-maturité. The domaine doubled the number of vendangeurs to capture fresh and ripe fruit and only racked the wine once to preserve the freshness. This Volnay shows the benefits of this approach with ripe black currant and blood orange striking a good balance with an element of velvety cassis poking through.
