Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Orveaux" 2002, Mongeard-Mugneret

This Domaine owns a whopping 30 hectares mostly in the Côtes de Nuits as well as pockets in Beaune, Pernand and Savigny. Interesting to see the evolution of the 2002 when it had nine years of evolution, eight years and six years. Les Orveaux has a north-easterly exposition so is better in bigger, riper years like 2002. The nose is on cherry, plum, slightly cooked -- a characteristic of the domaine. Turns to barnyard. There's plum fruit here, broad tannins, hefty. This has a half-timber structure. Slightly astringent finish. Excellent wine and good contrast with the Vosne from Anne-Françoise Gros 2001.
