Gevrey-Chambertin "La Croix des Champs" 2010, Thibault Liger-Belair

This Gevrey lieu dit is on the less favoured east side of the Route Nationale 74 -- call it Route des Pinots -- and the domaine owns 0.2 hectares. The terroir, being far from the slope, is more clay / alluvial without the limestone (calcaire) element. The domaine makes this wine with 50% "vendanges entieres" to add minerals from the stems such as potassium and calcium to the wine. In this 2010 vintage this wine offers pure strawberry fruit, loganberry, it is impressively long. Scores 20-22 / 30 for a Gevrey appellation. The quality is limited by the lieu dit not the wine-making. Photo shows the Thibault Liger-Belair cellars in Nuits-Saint-Georges.
