Beaune 1er Cru "Les Montrevenots" 2008, Vincent Dancer

This domaine has built up an impressive following among the Burgundy cognoscenti and top notch wine merchants. Primarily I believe for the white wines. I have held off opening the red 2008s since this is a millesime de garde. But one needs to dip in from time to time to assess progress and this lighter appellation seemed a good place to start. Unfortunately, my hypothesis was not confirmed. A medium brick-red colour common to the 2008 vintage. A mute nose, even after 30 minutes in the glass. Licorice root, red currant. Very hard to discern aromas and no excitement. Very fresh, linear, raspberry, rhubabr and red currant fruit on the palate. Elegant but a tad too savoury on the finish. And somehow flat. Hard to see how this will really improve over the next 2-3 years. I confess, this is a disappointing wine without being wrong in any way. Scores 18-20 / 30 for a Beaune 1er Cru.
