Auxey-Duresses Vieilles Vignes 2009, Prunier-Bonheur

Whilst Auxey-Duresses falls into the "good value" category of Côte d'Or appellations, it can also fall into the "dubious quality" category due to high yields and insufficient care taken in production because there is only so much that can be charged for an Auxey. This Auxey blanc vieilles vignes (averaging around 50 years old) thankfully falls into the bon rapport/qualité prix category. Initially closed, the nose evolves onto apple and pear. The pure tree fruit sensation continues on the palate with pear, yellow water melon and a good mineral finish strengthened with a hint of marzipan. In short, all the elements one would hope for. Judiciously aged in 20% new oak this 2009 Auxey blanc scores 23 / 30 for the Auxey appellation. Photo shows Auxey-Duresses church in July 2010.
