Saint-Romain 2009, Alain Gras

It rarely happens but the sommelier at Isola in Soho, NYC offered us this superior wine because the Burgundy we ordered was out of stock. He felt gratified that the wine was being shared with Burgundy tasters who had tried the 2009, 2006, 2005 and 2004 vintages. As usual, Fat Alan's wine didn't disappoint. White peach, icing sugar, pineapple yoghurt, coconut, apricot, vanilla, soft. This wine is just delicious, sheer chardonnay. Peach flavour, nectarine. Elegant, mineral finish with wonderful finesse. As good as it gets for Saint-Romain. Scores 28/30 for a Saint-Romain.
