Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Grande Montagne" 2011, Paul Pillot

One has to keep track of the Pillots when in Chassagne. There is the Domaine Paul Pillot, the Domaine Jean-Marc Pillot (which is run by Jean Pillot and Jean-Marc Pillot) and the Domaine Fernand & Laurent Pillot! Not easy to understand for a Puligny parvenu. Tasted at the Justerini & Brooks annual Burgundy tasting, this Chassagne hails from a limestone soil and is lemon-dominated, citrus-driven with touches of orange creeping into he nose. Pure, tart, mineral, elegant, long rather than mouth filling and with great energy. Could be too bright for people who enjoy Californian chardonnay with 14.8% alcohol! Scores 22-24 / 30 for a Chassagne premier cru.
