Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Clos St Jean" 2009, Guy Amiot

Continuing the tasting at the domaine in Chassagne, we moved onto the Clos St Jean which is at the top of the slope in Chassagne higher up than Les Macherelles. The higher altitude and the eastwards exposition make this a cooler micro-climate than other Chassagne premiers crus. Even in the juicy 2009 vintage this is reflected in the mint, apple and peche de vigne aromas. Beautifully clean on the palate with white honey, intense ripe chardonnay flavours, this is a potent wine with a big hitting finish. This is a less classic style of Chassagne - the ripe 2009 vintage combining with the rich Domaine Guy Amiot style - producing a wine for lobster thermidor and  coquilles st jacques. Scores 24-26/30 for a Chassagne premier cru.
