Mâcon-Villages "Clos du Four" 2011, Domaine des Héritiers du Comte Lafon

Buying vineyards in the Maconnais and Beaujolais is very much in vogue with large and well-capitlalized Côte d'Or producers such as Comtes Lafon, Jacques Prieur and Thibault Liger-Belair. There are some excellent micro-climates in these regions and the price of vineyards is a snip of the price of Meursault or Gevrey-Chambertin. The "Clos du Four" is one such privileged terroir. Tasted at the domaine there are immediate lemon and clementine aromas, with an intriguing second nose of rhubarb and celery. Excellent to find such freshness in a Maconnais wine. This is a mineral, elegant and linear chardonnay with good length and a pink grapefruit edge. Aged in 600 litre demi-muits. Tremendous quality / price ratio as well as being a superb wine. No wonder it can be found in bistrots just as much as on the lists of multi-Michelin macaron restaurants. Scores 28-29/30 for a Macon-Villages.
