Meursault 1er Cru "Charmes" 1978, Potinet-Ampeau

Another wine tasted blind in a flight of six whites, this ancient Meursault-Charmes has a stunning golden colour. This rich colour is the prelude to an incredible nose of truffle, truffle oil, slow-poached quail's egg and truffled egg-white omlette. The poached egg and stonking truffle aromas continue for 20 minutes. A touch of acidity, this 35 year old white Burgundy has fallen onto dry vine leaves, dried orange peel, sherried flavour. An incredible wine and a weird wine. Something special for connoisseurs to appreciate. Impossible to score this one. Here are the notes for the 1966, 1971 and 1992.
