Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru "Les Pruliers" 2011, Taupenot-Merme

The "Les Pruliers" vineyard is to the south of Nuits Saint Georges which suggests it should have the classic foursquare structure. This Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru "Les Pruliers" 2011 from Domaine Taupenot-Merme conceals the masculine structure in a cocoon of ripe cherry and plum fruit. There is an initial open nose of black cherry and cassis. This pinot is potent with elegance, good intensity, vanilla on the second nose. Notes of indigo and violet. These 38 year old vines offer plum flavours, lashing of cherry fruit, cassis, there is superb fruit quality with a refreshing purity. Sumptuous and with fresh tannins. The question is whether this is too much house style and not enough Les Pruliers? Scores 22-26/30 for a NSG 1er Cru with the quality assessment depending on whether you like rich, fruit-driven wines.
