Santenay 2008, Guy Amiot

This pinot noir from Santenay was a real eye-opener at a tasting with Fabrice Amiot at the Domaine Guy Amiot in Chassagne. I have held off opening my 2008 reds since all Burgundy wine-makers declared this a "millésime de garde" which they think will be far better than the media-hyped 2009s (I agree). This Santenay 2008 had a pleasant red cherry colour, a brilliant bouquet of red currants, raspberries, juniper, rhubarb, menthol and licorice. There is remarkable complexity! Cherry and plum on the palate, good ripe tannins. A huge success in the nervous 2008 vintage. Excellent stuff. Scores 27/30 for a Santenay rouge. Photo shows Santenay on a cloudy day in August 2010.
