Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Clos St Jacques" 2003, Bruno Clair

Fifth wine in a blind-tasting, this Gevrey 1er Cru from the illustrious Clos St Jacques lieu dit has an attractive purple plum colour. The nose is meaty, bloody and ferrinous. It continues on metallic noteswith plums and black cherries. Iodine on the final nose. Ripe black cherry flavours with a good dose of plum -- much more on offer on the palate than on the nose. It is smooth, silky textured, there is incredible ripe fruit quality dominated by blackberry and black cherry. Medium+ body and medium- acidity. Suggests most 2003s do not have much more ageing potential left. Scores 24/30 for a Gevrey 1er Cru.
