Gevrey-Chambertin 2009, Drouhin-Laroze

The team have visited this top Gevrey domaine for many years given the benchmark quality and wide range of premiers and grands crus. This Gevrey village from the lauded 2009 vintage has a feminine nose of violets, vanilla and strawberries. Showing obvious maturity in the colour which is a medium transparent cherry red. Nose continues on a sweet cherry and strawberry note. Good but not intense or out of the ordinary. Significant tannins on the palate and a plum acidity. Possibly losing the fruit a tad. Was 2009 the lion cub that lost its roar? Compare independent tasting notes to the media fanfare at the time and I'd say 2009 was outclassed by both 2008 (more complex) and 2010 (better balance). Scores 21/30 for a Gevrey.
