Central Otago "Bannockburn" Pinot Noir 2014, Mt Difficulty

Bannockburn is one of the seven sub-regions in the Central Otago viticultural region. The NZ wine regulators are moving towards formalising official classifications for each sub-region which I am sure will help the development of distinct, high quality wines. This Bannockburn pinot noir starts on red stone fruit. Expands into a clear plum note. Relatively reserved compared to other 2014s thyme and a touch of raspberry. Suggestions of the schist soil. Flavours evoke darker fruits than the nose - black cherry, mint. This is an impressively concentrated wine which needs another couple of years to open up. Very good.
