Central Otago "Mata-Au" Pinot Noir 2014, Chard Farm Winery


Produced from grapes in the Lowburn and Parkburn sub-regions this is one of the mid-range pinot wines from the domaine. Aromas of tobacco leaf, plum, oak, black cherry, oak spices and vanilla. There is an interesting and varied bouquet. It's pretty punchy on the palate with rich cherry fruit, full ripeness and also balanced. Rounded tannins. Subtle. Around 15-20% new oak. Certainly an excellent wine. Question is how much complexity will develop over the next five years in a wine produced from twenty-five year old vines.
