Central Otago "Pipeclay Terrace" Pinot Noir 2013, Mt Difficulty

Another excellent pinot from the broad range of Mt Difficulty wines. Either due to the vintage or terroir or both, this pinot noir is unlike the others. A very meaty nose pushes into bovril notes (beef, yeast, salt). Reminiscent of a daube de booeuf à la Provençal which is cooked with oranges. Cloves, rosemary in beef broth. This fundamentally savoury nose is transformed into a palate of velvety cherry and black currant fruit. Rich and consistent. Good fruit tannins. Serious and structured there is also some suave strawberry flavour. Excellent example of a more mature Central Otago pinot noir from a good vineyard.
